Keep the scraps

Last summer my husband and I collected some free fence wood from a friend; we used it for the front of our bar downstairs. We had some left over and I asked my husband to save it for any future ideas I might have. Low and behold, I found a use!

I went to our pile and found a nice piece of scrap wood.

My husband cut it into three equal pieces.

I coated it in finishing paste wax (love this stuff!).

My goal? To paint one animal on each piece of wood and then hang them in the nursery. I found these pictures on google and printed them out.

Cutting them out was not fabulous, but it was do able. I then put one animal on each board and taped it down. I thought I would just trace it and then remove the paper….

But I could not see it very well. I ended up putting the paper back on the board and just painted inside the cut out with white acrylic paint and a small brush.

Tada!

And here they are in the nursery.

So I got the wood for free and already had the paint (literally pennies for what I used here). All I needed was an idea! Get creative and see what you can use hanging around your house. I would love to hear your ideas!
