Unwanted Giftcards

Christmas is nearing and shopping has commenced! I am more than half way done with gathering my treasures and thought I might share a tip that helps save some cash during these holiday months.

Have you heard of buying people’s unwanted or used gift cards? There are a lot of sites out there that offer this service. I have used giftcardgranny.com but thanks to one of my besties I have a couple others for you too: cardcash.com, giftcardbin.com, giftcardzen.com and giftcardrescue.com (no affiliate links). Shout out Joey McLaughlin! xo

Scoring these deals is super easy. Browse a site or two and see which one has the best deal for your particular store/restaurant and buy! Just make sure you are aware if you are buying an actual card that needs to be shipped or a code that can be printed and used online or in store. I have never done it before, but you can also sell your used or unwanted gift cards to these sites too (I ALWAYS use gift cards..how can one not?!)

Have you bought any unwanted gift cards? If so, what did you buy with it? I would love to hear of your treasures!

  1. HI Kat. Do they actually send you the card and why are they for such weird amounts?

  2. Hi! The reason they are for super weird amounts is b/c a lot of the time the person selling them has used part of the card and they don’t have a reason to use the rest..so that is why they try to get at least something for the amount remaining (for example, say you got a $150 gift card to Gap. You use $80 of it, but don’t see anything else you want to spend the rest on..so you sell your card on one of these sites so you can at least get something for it). Does that make sense? The seller has to pay a small fee to the website, but the buyer doesn’t have to pay any fees. There is a “type” category or icon with most sites and that tells you if it is a card that will be mailed to you or a code that will be emailed to you that you can use in store or online…so look out for that so that you buy what you want. Let me know if you have more questions!
